Meet Ken Powell – SVP, Sales Operations & Enablement
Hi, I’m Ken, and I’ve been with YP℠ since May. Based in New York City, I oversee all activities related to the support and enablement of YP’s Sales organization. You can basically think of us as the team behind the team.
Let me start by busting a myth. Selling is hard – any perception that the Sales team “has it easy” is simply untrue. Just imagine what it’s like trying to earn the trust (and wallet) of a total stranger every single day, in return for a promise from us to help grow their business. And it becomes that much harder when process barriers prevent our sales associates from being in front of customers day in and day out. It’s a drain on resources and revenue. That’s why it’s my team’s responsibility to surround the YP’s Sales organization with support, tools, streamlined processes, and training to make them more efficient and effective.
I came to YP from ADP, where I managed the centralization of Sales Operations and Enablement across 100 countries and 6,500 sales associates. Before that, I helped lead a sales transformation at SunGard, resulting in three consecutive years of double-digit organic growth, a successful IPO launch, and the honor of being voted “The Best Place To Sell” three years in a row by Selling Power Magazine. By now, you may have noticed a trend: I have a passion for sales transformation.
Speaking of passion, one of my favorite pastimes is fitness. Over the years, I’ve spent more than my fair share of time in local gyms. The gym owners I’ve met along the way opened those businesses because of their true dedication to fitness; however, a passion for fitness doesn’t always equate to an expertise in marketing or a know-how for growing businesses. That’s where YP can help – and it’s exactly why we’ve made it our mission to help local businesses and communities grow.
In fact, YP has already become a big part of the Powell household. When I first started at the company, my children asked, “Dad, what’s YP?” I explained that we help small business owners – like the ice cream parlor down the street – tell customers why their shop is the best. This is (more or less) the same conversation our Sales consultants have with small business owners every day. The only difference is that we tap into our full suite of marketing solutions products and services to help them grow their business by making it easier for them to tell their customers why they’re great, too. This is what makes working at YP so rewarding – and just one of many reasons why I’m so excited to help the Sales team make a bigger impact on helping small businesses thrive and grow.
