Team YP℠ Shoots Hoops in TechJam 2016 to Raise $2,500 for Charity
On March 5, the YP℠ basketball team put down their laptops, laced up their sneakers, and hit the courts at the fourth annual TechJam LA basketball tournament, hosted by the University of Southern California (USC). They joined teams from Hulu, Snapchat, The Honest Co., Factual, Second Spectrum, ZipRecruiter, and more for a day of fun and philanthropy.
TechJam LA is an annual basketball tournament – organized by a group of tech professionals for tech professionals – in the Greater Los Angeles area. It doubles as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Southern California. This is the second time Team YP has participated.
Team member Ryan Kramer provided game day highlights:
“Team YP got the day started with a bang, taking on Team Hulu – and winning! Game 2 pitted YP vs Snapchat, resulting in a disappointing loss. With our 1-1 record, we really needed a win in Game 3 vs Team Beach Body to advance to the knockout round—and we did it, pushing our record to 2-1. Unfortunately we lost out on advancing due to a tiebreaker. It was a great day of basketball and we’re proud to assist a great cause – the event raised $2,500 for the Special Olympics of Southern California. We all had a great time and are proud to represent YP – thanks to everyone who came out to support us.”
Team members included: Arthur Chavez, Senior Search Specialist; Ruben Villalobos, Lead Specialist, QC Data; Jovan Ramirez, Data Quality Specialist; David Mayer, Product Manager; Ryan Kramer, Senior Manager, Database Operations; Edward Kim, Lead Software Engineer; Corey McMahon, VP, Platform Strategy; Farshid Didehvarsadr, Software Engineer; and Jasen Shen, Analyst, Digital Operations.
