Ty Pennington Shares His Love for Atlanta’s Local Businesses
Quirky TV star, host, and carpenter, Ty Pennington is willing to do just about anything. A big supporter of local businesses, he recently took YP℠ on a tour of his favorite spots in and around Atlanta – as part of YP’s Make Every Day Local campaign. He joins actress and comedian, Jane Lynch, comedian and actor, Cedric The Entertainer, and San Francisco 49’ers running back Reggie Bush.
A self-described jack-of-all-trades, Pennington is best known as the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which won him two Emmy awards. Prior to that decade-long stint, Pennington was a household name as the hunky carpenter on TLC’s popular reality show, Trading Spaces. He’s also an artist, an author, and the recipient of two People’s Choice awards. (Not too shabby, eh?)
So, before getting this journey started, Pennington talked about his respect for small business owners, emphasizing their unique know-how for making products and services stand out from the competition. For this reason, Pennington was ready to lend his energy, expertise, off-the-wall sense of humor, and creative style to every business we visited. He certainly did not disappoint!
First up, the aisles of Suite Bridal, where he helped a bride-to-be find the perfect gown for her big day. “Put me to work,” he challenged the shop owner – and before we knew it, he was put in charge of a fitting. After a few moments flipping through rows of gowns, he found a winner. “It’s bedazzled, you’re gonna love this!” Did the bride-to-be agree? See for yourself.
Next, inside the Atlanta Cupcake Factory, Pennington swore he’s never made a cupcake before. (Hard to believe, right?) You’d think someone with such incredible handyman skills would be able to do pretty much anything – even in the kitchen. However, when it came to icing red velvet cupcakes with decadent cream cheese frosting, there were certainly a few bumps in the road. Turns out there’s a bit of coordination required to ice a cupcake just perfectly. Who knew?
Then we moved onto the third and, quite possibly, the cutest stop of the day – bathing dogs at Glamour Paws. Pennington put on his goggles, lathered and rinsed a cute pup, and then encouraged the pup to just “shake it off” while giving it a blow dry. In the end, he got a bit wet, but definitely enjoyed every minute of it.
Pennington reminded us that he knows a great business when he sees one. “Good thing there are local businesses that specialize in what they do – and [thankfully] they’re a lot better at [doing what they do] than I am!” So with that said, go and celebrate local businesses by watching our #MakeEveryDayLocal celebrity videos – and, while you’re at it, be sure to tell us about your favorite local businesses, using the #MakeEveryDayLocal hashtag in your post!
